Halftime: Jaguars v Texans
JT: As if I were in the locker room making the adjustments myself
To the Offense: I have zero complaints except for the complaints I do have. The play calling isn’t consistently awesome. When we attack we do well, when we call “safe” plays that put us in third and long positions (which, ironically, then force the good attack play calls) we don’t do too well. Roll Trevor outside, give him the opportunity to use his legs more. Screens to TEs and ETN are working. Ridley was open in the end zone so run that play again. C. Rid, you’ve got to catch the ball, my man. And finally, why can we not get it through our thick skull that when we have one yard to get, and we have a 6’6” QB, and he has proven time and again that he can reach into the endzone, why oh why do we pitch the ball backward several yards and get tackled. We work so hard for those extra yards only to throw them away with a shotgun formation or a pitch back. Why Press, Why? Let’s hope that doesn’t swing the momentum. I always say the most important part of the game is the middle eight minutes. Score before halftime and then score on the first drive after halftime and you can put the game away. The Jags failed to put points on the board on that last play.
To the Defense: Just like with the offense I am happy and unhappy. Overall I am happy. Where I was not happy was on the Texan’s touchdown play. Why would you rush only 3 big men? Stroud makes a living off of his escapability and for all intents and purposes Jacksonville, for the most part, has been getting to the QB and pressuring him with only a four man rush. So why give him all the time in the world to make himself a sandwich and watch a show or two while bouncing around behind the line of scrimmage waiting for a receiver to get open. DBs can only cover receivers for so long. Eventually one will get open and if the QB has not a care in the world and enough time to do his taxes then of course he will find that open man. That was a stupid defensive call. Should have at least rushed four. Everything else, super happy about.
To the Coaches: I pretty much summed it up above. Great play calling when we are attacking, horrible when we are playing it “safe.” This applies to both the offense and the defense. Attack, attack, attack.
