Halftime Speech: Jaguars vs Giants

Doug, I must commend you right off the bat. I was questioning your decision to take the point off the board in order to go for two after the Jags first touchdown. But because it worked I’m okay with it. Funny how that works.

This halftime speech is as if JaguarsTalk were invited into the locker room to give a speech to the team.

To the Offense: You are making the right calls you just aren’t executing on all the plays. Trevor it seems you have to miss a wide open guy for a touchdown every game. Well, now that it’s out of your system for this game (wide open Zay Jones for six), you can start throwing completions for paydirt, buddy. I feel Trevor gets a little overly excited when it should be a super easy completion.

The main problem is not finishing. How many times do we need to be in the red zone and only kick a field goal before we realize that doing so isn’t winning games for us? Ball security is paramount, especially in the red zone. This is the third or fourth time we have turned the ball over when going in for a score this season. It’s costing us dubs. If ever we want to hold onto the rock it’s in the red zone. We are beating ourselves. Costing ourselves points. ETN you have to carry a ball around with you everywhere, all week, in London, at the pubs, while drinking warm beer with the King. I will say this offense. You are giving Logan Cooke the day off and that is appreciated by all. In the second half keep doing what you are doing except execute better. The game plan is working and the plays are there, you just need to take advantage of all of them. Don’t get flustered and don’t rush anything. Take what the defense gives you. You’ve got an entire half and you are owning the Giants D. Put it in the end zone.

Defense: Statistically this game is a dead heat. The Giants have maybe three more minutes TOP but yards are around 230-240 each and first downs are approximately 13-14 each. I don’t have the numbers in front of me (now I do, 9 rushes for 18 yards) but it feels like the Dogs of War are containing Saquon Barkley pretty well. I’d say phenomenally well. We need to work on our two minute prevent defense. I understand we don’t want to let anyone get behind us but letting them march down the field 10-15 yards at a time isn’t good defense at all. Defense, tighten up and get to D Jones. You are just a step late every time. Keep containing Barkley but you can’t let Jones beat you with his legs on a scramble. It’s deflating having him run for a first down on a busted play. This game will come down to whomever gets a turnover in the second half. The Jags D needs to get back in the plus column with takeaways this game.
