Halftime Speech: Jaguars vs Raiders
JT: If JAX coaches had the WWW and JaguarsTalk.com, they’d be 6-2. Not bragging, just saying.
The Halftime Speeches columns are written in real time, during the actual halftime of the game, as if JaguarsTalk had been invited by Doug P. himself into the locker room to deliver the game winning second half adjustments.
What just happened? That half was all Raiders, nothing but Raiders and only Raiders. How in the hell did Jacksonville get out of that half only down 10 points? Incredible.
To the offense: Build on your momentum. Down 17-0 the Jaguars offense has clawed back to 20-10. Trevor Lawrence drove down the field with relative ease with under a minute left to play and got Riley into field goal range. 20-10 is a very over-comeable deficit. We need to run the ball more ONLY if ETN can hold onto it. Again, JAX has been turning the ball over at critical times. This time on the 23 yard line (Hasty). Trevor, you have to put the team on your shoulders in the second half because if running the ball continues to only gain us around 2 yards per carry then it will become a passing only offense, with a few runs mixed in to keep LV honest. If the J. Hasty pitch wasn’t a turnover then this game could very well be a three point game.
To the defense: You guys held the Raiders to a three and out. Then you let Davante Adams have the game of the season in the first half. Smoot got one sack and then everyone seemed to grab a drink and kick up their feet. The Jags defense needs to take out either Adams or Jacobs because with both of them doing whatever they want to do JAX has to play a two dimensional defensive game and they are not built to do such a thing. Consider making Andre Cisco a better safety over the halftime somehow.
Look Jags, you are still in the game. Derek Carr and Adams are having career games in one half of football and they are only up 20-10. The offense has momentum and the ball starting the second half and the defense gained some momentum holding Las Vegas to only a field goal on their last drive.
This is doable.
