Jaguars @ Titans - Halftime Speech
JT: Some adjustments were made for the better but others still need to be implemented
The Jaguars allowed Derrick Henry to rush for 90+ yards during the first quarter. That needs to be stopped. The problem is that I don’t know how to do that with the Jaguars current defense. He is a Mack truck with no brake fluid.
To the Offense: Evan Engram is having a game folks, 6 catches for 91 yards and a touchdown. I swear he switched jerseys with Christian Kirk but then I saw Kirk catch a pass earlier. I like the tight end usage. In fact, tight ends for both teams have been active today. T-law needs to continue to pass this ball and take advantage of the Titans depleted defense. Zay Jones has dropped a couple/three passes already this week costing us some major first downs. I believe we had to settle for a field goal instead of going to six due to a drop, but he did redeem himself with the amazing tiptoe TD catch to end the half. Evan Engram dropped a couple to begin with but then turned that around as well. I think the Jags receivers have all gotten the whoopsies out of their systems. We also need to split ETN out wide to run some pass patterns. Another thing that the offense needs to do is run Lawrence some more. He has quite a bit of pocket time with quite a bit of yardage in from of him. Trevor can run for some needed first downs. Not many changes to make with the offense. Adjustments be damned, the offense is playing well, so let’s double up coming out for the second half since the Jags will get the ball.
To the Defense: Plus three in turnovers. We love you Dewey Wingard. Can we give Josh Allen credit for that Derrick Henry fumble recovery? I mean we are gonna, cause we here at JaguarsTalk like Josh. Mike Caldwell, no doubt in an effort to save his job moved Darious Williams to outside cornerback and Tre Herndon to the inside. It seems to be working but it is difficult to tell because Tennessee is, well, Tennessee. They are not the most prolific passing offense. By that I mean they are pretty awful, and yet the Jaguars seem to be making Tannehill look like Mahomes. At least no passes are headed to the outside. If we look at the first quarter alone, then the defense really needed to slow down Henry. He had almost 100 yards on the ground in a single quarter. That is unheard of. But the Jags seemed to buckle down in the second quarter and slow Henry. We need to rush the Titans QB more. Stunt, blitz, put Walker in a three point stance and let him loose. We saw what happened when you allow that, so why not do it more often? Let the big dogs eat. That is the single adjustment I would make here. Pressure pressure pressure. Feed the beasts and let ‘em loose on Tannehill. Trust your new DB formation, Caldwell, and go after the Titans ball tosser (I suppose I could have worded that a little better).
