JaguarsTalk: K9s For Warriors and the Jacksonville Jaguars
JaguarsTalk: Chew on this column for a sit. We pawsitively guarantee you will enjoy the read
Cats and dogs don’t generally get along with each other. How did that old Rose Bonne ditty go? There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, I don’t know why she swallowed a fly, perhaps she’ll die (by the end of the sentence you know you were singing it). While no doubt a tremendously uplifting jingle for the kiddos, didn’t she end up swallowing a dog, what a hog, to swallow a dog, to catch the cat that she swallowed to catch the bird, to catch the spider, to catch the fly. And we still have no idea why she swallowed the fly, or why swallowing a fly could possibly kill her. Point being that evidently in Duuuval in 2022, big cats and golden retrievers are all buddy buddy. What? Did we just become best friends? Yep! Do you wanna go do karate in the garage?
According to the official Jacksonville Jaguars website, Maurice Bones-Drew (Mojo), a seventeen week old pup will be training with the Jags via K9s For Warriors. Mojo will learn the skills needed to eventually partner up with one of our military veterans suffering from PTSD/TBI/MST. K9s For Warriors save the majority of the dogs they train from high kill shelters and train them to help reduce veteran suicides and enhance the lives of those who serve to keep America free. This means that for every match made by K9s For Warriors, two lives are saved. If only we can figure out how to save the Old Lady from the fly.
This amazing golden (Mojo), being trained by an even more amazing company, for an even more amazing cause, helping some of the most amazing members of our society, was named after the Jacksonville Jaguars most prolific running back, Maurice Jones-Drew. This got us here at JaguarsTalk thinking (it sometimes happens). Why can’t this become an NFL-wide endeavor? Why can’t the NFL work with K9s For Warriors in order to have all 32 teams sponsor a pooch for a veteran. Lord knows the NFL has the money and resources to help and there is no more deserving group of people in the world than our military men and women. It’s the least the NFL can do. I give Khan and the Jags all the credit in the world for teaming up with K9s For Warriors. Hey, Goodell, can we make this happen please?
JaguarsTalk is not going to wait for Roger Goodell and the rest of the NFL owners to set this in motion. We are going to take the bull by the horns (before the old lady swallows it) and name some K9s For Warriors dogs for the rest of the 31 NFL franchises. This way they have fewer things to think about once they finally decide to help this great cause.

They aren’t all great but it’s a start. Let’s see if we can’t rally the rest of the teams to this wonderful paws cause. Maybe Shad Khan can lend JaguarsTalk his NFL contacts list so that we can chase down this noble venture. Take time out of your day to look into K9s For Warriors and when you are out and about, take a second to thank a veteran.
I know that you fine people are much more creative than we here at JaguarsTalk pretend to be, so if you come up with additional and better names just drop them in the comments section below. They’ll all be better if we are being honest, except for Fran Barkenton, LaStaynian Tomlinson and the entire NFC West. Those are instant classics.
