JaguarsTalk: Jacksonville Jaguars Head Coach Doug Pederson is a Reader?
JaguarsTalk: Doug Pederson’s pre OTA press conference
We here at JaguarsTalk caught the tail end of Doug Pederson’s pre-OTA press conference this morning and found a few interesting takeaways that we deemed important enough to share with you, the loyal reader. We have been saying since the 2022 draft that the best part of the Jacksonville team was now the linebacking core. Since then we have read others who say the exact same thing. Some include the entire front seven, for which a decent case can be made. The linemen for the Jags, in their 3-4 scheme, are pretty damn good, to be sure, especially with the addition of Fatukasi.
Yesterday, in a column titled “Superlatives” we (JaguarsTalk) went so far as to say that Josh Allen will be the main beneficiary of the draft and offseason linebacking additions. Allen will be the veteran who will get to make more plays, accumulate more sacks, more hurries, more knock downs, more batted balls, more everything, simply because the new Jaguar defensive additions will take the pressure off Allen and free him to wreak the havoc that he is more than capable of doling out. We further went on to say that this won’t last all year. As the newbies and the rookies settle in, mature, master the system, and gel, wealth will be spread amongst the lot and all will be gorging on opposing QBs and RBs. Until that happens however Josh Allen will be the main recipient of the Jags new found abilities on defense.
In the press conference this morning, coach Doug Pederson essentially plagiarized our column. And he is more than welcome to do so. He was talking about how, because of the defensive additions, Josh Allen will be able to be the Josh Allen of old. The Josh Allen that all Jags fans know and love. The Josh Allen that all offensive lineman know and hate. Pederson is excited to see what Josh Allen accomplishes now that he has a dominant supporting cast. But like we here at JaguarsTalk believe, they won’t be supporting for very long. Soon everyone will be stepping up and having their day in the sun. We just found it mighty interesting and a little more than ironic that the day after we posted our column commenting on Allen’s new found freedom, none other than the Jacksonville head coach was talking about the exact same thing. Coincidence? Absolutely it was. It was nothing but pure coincidence. However, we here at JaguarsTalk prefer to look at it a little differently. We prefer to believe that Pederson is an avid, although closeted, reader of JaguarsTalk and that he liked and agreed so much with what we had to say that he repeated it this morning for all the world to hear. That is what we are telling ourselves and you can not change our collective mind.
The moral of this story is that if the head coach of a National Football League professional football team is essentially, in an admittedly roundabout way, telling you to read JaguarsTalk, then you, as a committed Jacksonville Jaguars fan, should listen to your coach and start reading JaguarsTalk. We aren’t here for our health people, we are here for yours. So read and comment or risk getting your Jaguars news a day late from Coach Pederson.
Oh he also commented on the flexibility in usage of Travis Etienne and Evan Engram, two things we have also already written about. I’m just saying…still waiting for that phone call about a staff position. If you believe you deserve a staff position with the Jaguars as well please let us know in the comments below. As always have a wonderful Monday and enjoy the rest of your week.
