The Jacksonville Jaguars 2022 NFL Record
JT: Let’s take a look at the best and worst Jaguars win/loss scenarios
Just for fun, because, why not? Power Rankings are all the rage these days. Moving teams up and down the list based on who they beat or lost to that week. It’s like the NFL writers have adopted some sort of college AP poll ranking system. So, in the spirit of things that don’t matter we here at JaguarsTalk will be taking Jaguars Senior Writer John Oehser’s latest power ranking and using it to figure out the win/loss record for Jacksonville in 2022. First JT will give you our most optimistic prediction. Most fans who have been repeatedly disappointed by JAX, yet keep coming back for more, will surely have a hearty chuckle at this prediction. Then we will provide what we think is the worst-case scenario for Jacksonville’s record this season (this one might be a little more palatable). Finally, we will provide a Jaguars record based on Oehser’s weekly power rankings. At the end of the season we can see who was closest. I will say that, because I am not jaded by decades of disappointment, I probably tend to be a little more optimistic than most Jaguars fans. Or one could look at it as a more informed opinion simply because I am removed from the years of being dragged through an emotional hell only to lather, rinse repeat the following season. We chose to view it as the latter.
Most optimistic outcome: 12-5 - Once you are finished laughing, hear me out.
The Jags currently sit 1-1 (should be 2-0. I don’t think anyone would argue that).
@Chargers - JAX Wins. I believe Herbert won’t play. He is more injured than LA is letting on. This gives JAX a legitimate chance. Keenan Allen said he’s “got a shot” to play but isn’t sure. I just don’t see why LA would risk either player for an out of conference game. Whether they play or not, neither will be 100%. If JAX can stop Jonathan Taylor, they can stop Austin Ekeler. My main concern is the Jacksonville offense with Joey Bosa, Kyle Van Noy and Khalil Mack coming after Trevor Lawrence.
@Eagles - JAX Loses. This would be the sweetest victory of the season for Coach Pederson but this is a difficult road trip and to come home 2-2 would be considered pretty damn good.
vs Texans - JAX Wins. It’s Houston, at home, on Tony Boselli night.
@ Colts - JAX Wins. I know Indy didn’t have their full complement of WRs. I also know it wouldn’t have mattered last week and it won’t matter here either.
vs Giants - JAX Wins. The Giants go as Saquon goes and Saquon doesn’t really go very much anymore.
vs Broncos - JAX Wins. The Broncos look awful and are very lucky to not be 0-2 right now. Geno Smith beat them for goodness’ sake.
vs Raiders - JAX Loses. Can’t win them all, although Vegas looks horrible too and I bet Adams is missing Aaron Rodgers right about now.
@ Chiefs - JAX Loses. It’s Mahomes.
vs Ravens - JAX Loses. It’s Lamar.
@ Lions - JAX Wins. It’s Detroit. Plus, Walker will prove why he was rightfully drafted #1.
@ Titans - JAX Wins. All they need to do is stop Derrick Henry which is easier to do when Tennessee has no wide receivers of which to speak.
vs Cowboys - JAX Wins. Will Dak be back? Will he be 100%? The Cowboys are like a bad relationship, too many ups and downs, no continuity to their game.
@ Jets - JAX Wins. People had such high hopes for the Jets at the beginning of the season. I read numerous articles saying they were this year Bengals.
@ Texans - JAX Wins. I am not sure what else to say except, once again, it’s Houston.
vs Titans - JAX Wins. Stop Henry and game over. This is getting repetitive.
Jacksonville ends the season with a very nice six game winning streak going into the playoffs as the runaway AFC South division winners. Like I said, this is the optimistic view. However, if Jacksonville beats LA or Philly then 12-5 becomes much more achievable, even in the eyes of the broken-hearted fan.
Most pessimistic outcome: 9-8. Still laughing? Take away the Cowboys win, the Broncos win, and the Chargers win. Jacksonville still makes the playoffs as the runaway leader of the AFC South. Suddenly pessimism isn’t looking too bad.
Power Ranking outcome: Based on Jaguars Senior Writer John Oehser’s power rankings. That guy knows more about the Jags than any other writer who has done power rankings, so we trust his current Jacksonville placement among all 32. Oehser has Jacksonville ranked 17th in his latest power rankings. Of the 16 teams ahead of them, the Jaguars play Kansas City, LA Chargers, Eagles, Ravens, Giants, and Lions. So, if the Jags lose to all the teams ahead of them, then by his own (current) power rankings Mr. John (6 or 7 wins this season) Oehser has the Jags finishing above .500, at 9-8. Mind you, this is one of the most cautious Jaguars writers.
A lot of opinions will change if the Jags can come home from this difficult road trip at 2-2, 3-1 would be cause for Super Bowl talk. Maybe we are getting a little ahead of ourselves here, but you never know. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
